Energy
A downloadable game
A minimal automation game where energy is everything.
I built this game in C++ to strip the factory-building genre down to its absolute essence. There are no conveyor belts, no complex recipes, and no mining drills. There is only Energy.
Your goal is simple: build a power grid, defend your core, and keep the system alive for as long as possible. But be warned—entropy is always watching. One wrong calculation, one breach in your defenses, and you will watch your carefully constructed empire crumble into chaos.
⚡ Core Mechanics
Everything in this world runs on electricity.
- Generators need energy to start generating. You must manage your initial spark carefully.
- The heart of your operation. Cores allow you to build and demolish structures. More coreaster construction speed, but they also consume power.
- Batteries: Your safety net. They store excess energy and automatically discharge when your grid is under heavy load.
- Turrets: Your only line of defense against the encroaching red swarm. They are hungry for power.
🎮 How to Play
The interface is designed for speed and efficiency. No complex menus, just hotkeys:
- [1] Wire: Connect your grid. The lifeline of your system.
- [2] Generator: Convert fuel into raw power. Remember, they need a jumpstart!
- [3] Battery: Store energy for peak usage or emergencies.
- [4] Core: The command center. Increases your build/demolish speed. Protect it at all costs.
- [5] Turret: Automated defense. Place them strategically to cover blind spots.
- [R] Demolish: Remove a structure to reclaim space or fix a wiring mistake.
🛠️ Tech & Vision
C++. I wanted to create a simulation that feels responsive and raw. The visual style is minimalist by design—you see exactly what matters: the flow of blue energy and the tide of red enemies.
Feedback Wanted
This is an early demo. I am specifically looking for feedback on:
- Is the energy balance fair?
- Do the controls feel intuitive?
- How does the difficulty curve feel?
Download the demo, build your grid, and try not to let the lights go out.
